What are TRON Energy and Bandwidth?
Energy and Bandwidth are system resources on the TRON blockchain. Executing transactions consumes these resources, similar to how gas fees are required for transactions on other blockchains.
- Energy: Used for transactions involving smart contract interactions. Examples include swapping TRX for USDT on a DEX or transferring USDT to another wallet (since USDT is a token contract, its transfers require Energy. TRX transfers, however, do not). Energy is not automatically available in your wallet—it must be obtained through staking or leasing.
- Bandwidth: Required for executing transactions, such as sending TRX, staking, unstaking, and most on-chain operations. For example, transferring USDT consumes both Energy and Bandwidth. Each wallet automatically receives 600 free Bandwidth daily (enough for 1-2 transactions. Note: TRON may adjust this free quota).
If your wallet lacks sufficient Energy or Bandwidth, TRX will be deducted to cover the transaction costs.
How to Check My Energy and Bandwidth?
In the SafePal App, go to Discover → Gas Station → Energy Leasing to view your wallet’s Energy and Bandwidth balances.
What Is Energy Leasing? What Are the Benefits?
Without Energy, transactions incur high TRX deductions, increasing costs. By leasing Energy from SafePal at a lower cost, you can significantly reduce fees. For example:
- USDT Transfer without Energy: Costs ~13.85 TRX.
With Leased Energy: Pay only ~5.85 TRX to lease Energy, saving ~8 TRX (≈$2) per transaction.
How to Lease Energy?
Instructions for leasing Energy would follow below steps:
Open your SafePal App, tap the Gas Station.
Tap TRON Energy Rental.
Choose to lease by the transfer counts or energy amount and confirm the amount you need.
Confirm the Energy amount you rent, and confirm to pay it.
And the TRON Energy will be received in 5 minutes, and you can check your TRON energy in the Rental page.
Without TRON energy, a TRC20 network transaction would cost approximately 13.85 $TRX; but after paying 5.85 $TRX for rental energy, no more $TRX needs to be burned, saving you approximately 8 $TRX (=2U)
What’s the Difference Between Lease Durations?
Leased Energy gradually replenishes after being consumed. For example:
- If you lease 65,000 Energy for 3 days and use it all on Day 1, it will fully restore to 65,000 on Day 2, allowing you to continue using it for transactions.
- On Day 3, it will replenish again to 65,000.
Choose your lease duration based on your expected transaction needs.
Note: Once the lease expires, your Energy will be reclaimed (regardless of usage) and will no longer regenerate.
Friendly Reminders
- New TRON Wallets: Must receive at least 1 TRX to activate before using Energy Leasing. Activation may slightly increase initial leasing costs.
- Token Transfers: If the recipient’s wallet doesn’t already hold the token, the transaction requires double the Energy. For Example: Sending USDT from Wallet A to Wallet B: If Wallet B has USDT: Costs 65,000 Energy. If Wallet B has no USDT: Costs 131,000 Energy. Adjust your leased Energy amount accordingly.
