PIN code on a S1 Hardware Wallet

What is a PIN code? Why is it important? 

SafePal PIN code is the password on the S1 hardware device used to approve transactions and authorize DApp logins. It is very important for transaction verification. Please do not share your device PIN code with anybody.

Here are some security tips about the S1 hardware wallet PIN code:

1. Please avoid setting weak PIN codes such as "123456" or "666666".
2. The PIN code is a list of 6-12 digit numbers.
3. For security, if you mistype the PIN code multiple times, the system would delete the private key automatically. Once deleted, you would need to recover your wallet with the correct mnemonic phrase.
4. SafePal does not store or access your PIN code. If you forget the PIN code, please follow the instructions below to reset a new one.

The difference between the PINcode and the Security Password

A PINcode refers to the password you used on an S1 hardware wallet to sign and approve transfers, while a security password refers to the password that you used on the SafePal App for security settings or signing transfers of a software wallet. They are two different things when you use the SafePal wallet.

What if I forget my PIN code?

Since SafePal doesn't store any of your personal information such as PIN code, password, or mnemonic phrase, we cannot help to recover your account once you forget the PIN code.

Here is the suggestion when this situation happens:

1. Make sure you have backed up the correct mnemonic phrase.
2. Reset your S1 hardware wallet (go to 'Setting' --> 'Reset wallet') and recover the wallet with the correct mnemonic phrase and Passphrase (if you set any). During the wallet recovery, you will be able to set a new PIN code for the wallet.
